River Tay Conservation Code 2008

The association encourages restraint and endorses catch and release as a valuable conservation tool, and commends to anglers the guidance on this and the maximum number of salmon that should be retained, issued by the Tay District Salmon Fisheries Board. The advice for 2008 is that:

January 15 until  May 31

The 1st fish caught each day by each individual angler must be returned.

Each individual angler then has the option of keeping 1 subsequent fish only, per day.

From  June 1 to End of Season

All hen fish to be returned. The aim should then be to return at least 50% of cock fish caught, in particular cock fish weighing over 15 lbs.

Throughout the year

All coloured fish are to be returned.

Although handling of fish to be released should be kept to a minimum, it may be possible to get a rough measurement of length to the fork of the tail. This may in turn be useful in estimating the weight of released fish. A conversion chart for estimating weight from length can be found on page 27 of your 2008 PDAA permit book

No Worm fishing until after June 1 and none after August 31 onwards

The sale of rod-caught salmon and sea trout is now banned by law.
